Project Partners
Friends of SLO Creek is a grassroots community that helps to restore, protect, and care for San Luis Obispo Creek. Made up of ranchers, residents, businesses, students, and visitors, it brings people together around a shared responsibility: to actively steward SLO Creek through habitat restoration and community-based education.
While many cherish its beauty as it flows through downtown Mission Plaza, SLO Creek is also essential habitat for native species like steelhead trout, but it’s at a tipping point. Friends of SLO Creek empowers our local partners and the community to restore SLO Creek’s native species and habitat so it can continue to support both people and wildlife for generations to come.

SLO Creek supports vibrant biodiversity and is central to the city’s cultural heritage.
San Luis Obispo Creek has long shaped the city’s heart. With thriving wildlife habitat alongside cherished gathering places, SLO Creek is a vibrant destination and a defining feature of life in SLO.
In 1969, the community sparked a movement to stop pollution from killing fish and began caring for the creek. Today, Friends of SLO Creek carries forward that legacy of stewardship.
Join us and help protect healthy habitat, care for beautiful community spaces, and ensure this treasure remains a source of pride for generations to come.
